http://twinkcsa.blogspot.com/2010/11/want-to-tetris-battle-it-will-up-rank.html Look around the classroom, the study lounges, your friends’ laptop screens; Facebook Tetris Battle is the new in thing for Asians. My friends and I have been Tetris battling each other at night for hours (…sad, I know, but that’s what addiction is.) So I decided to do a little research this addictive game I’m fighting against, and what I found was that playing Tetris increases brain efficiency! Using brain imaging technology, researchers from Mind Research Network investigated 26 teenage girls playing Tetris. For 30 minutes a day for three months, these girls played Tetris (gr, I wonder if they get paid for doing it too.) There was also a control group of girls that didn’t play Tetris to maintain a fair test. These girls had both structural (for assessing cortical thickness) and functional (to assess efficient activity) MRI scans before and after the three-months period. To cut a long story short, what they found was that after three months, the brain efficiency and cortical thickness of the girls that did play Tetris were higher than those of the girls that didn’t. Dr. Richard Haier explains, “what we found was a change in the brain after playing Tetris, the thickness of the cerebral cortex actually increased, by less than half a millimetre.” He continued to say how it was once thought that the number of brain cells in the brain was fixed by a certain age, but this now appears not to be true. The cerebral cortex plays a key role in memory, attention, perceptual awareness, thought, language and consciousness, so I’m guessing, with the thickening of it, Tetris increases ALL THAT. So, it’s not that bad to be addicted to Tetris after all then? Stop telling me to stop playing Tetris, it’s good for me.

Snackies
:Hong Kong Street Food: Hong Kong is well-known for the diverse and delicious cuisine off and on the streets. Here are some of my personal favorites. Shiu mai -a well-known dim sum treat. Around $1.2 a bowl of 12. The ones you get on the street are usually made with fish meat unlike the pork meat shiu mais you get at dimsum. The fish meat ones are usually accompanied by soya sauce and hot sauce. They even sell microwave ones in 7/11. Hong Kong style egg waffles, my personal favorite. $1.2 per bag. It’s a very ancient street snack that’s been passed on in the Hong Kong culture. I guess it just never lost its popularity =]. They’re sold everywhere on the streets, there are some famous ones such as the one right across of Time Square, which are very crispy but not very sweet. So, depending on your own taste, you may find different stores better. Hong Kong style calamari – deep fried octopus legs, pepper and salt. $2 a bag. I’m just going to go ahead and say they’re delicious artery cloggers.
Shopping Mong Kok
:Mong Kok : Hong Kong: Women’s street is a long outdoor market selling almost anything, fake and cheap of course. LV wallets, handbags, tees, stuff toys, true religion jeans, anything you can think of, you can get here. One downfall of course is that it’s always packed by thousands of people. And since it’s outdoor, during the summer it’s not unusual to have to shop in the unbearable humidity and heat, or even at times, the pouring rain. Street food is everywhere. They’re delicious. There are the traditional shiu mai (basically the same thing you get at dim sum), sausages, fish balls, and much more. Another main attraction of Mong Kok is the sneaker street. The whole street is full of Nike, Puma, Adidas, and local stores that sell the latest shoe models from mainly US and Japan.

The Expendables
:The Expendables – one last time?: Although ratings from the US audience pulled my expectations down quite a bit, I’m still thrilled for its first screening in Hong Kong on the 26th this month. After all, these are the childhood hero and villains I grew up watching and admiring. At the very least, it “scratches the itch action fans have had since the ’80s,’” as some reviews put it. So far, criticics point fingers to the overuse of testosterone-driven actions, the dumb plot, excessive violence and etc. Let’s not forget that this is a movie with 9 all-time badasses, who are known mainly for the size of their muscles, not their witty crime-solving capabilities. Critics are comparing the actor’s performances to those of more recent action stars, like Robert Downey Junior in Iron Man, or Will Smith, in his countless save-the-world films; others, put the Expendables next to Stallone classics, such as Rambo and Rocky. Have we forgotten that Schwarzenegger is 63 this year? Stallone is 64 and Rourke, 57! They are or can be grandfathers by now. I’m just glad they’re still up and about, and still able to be so badass doing whatever they do. The Expendables can easily be the last old-school testosterone fest by these action veterans. Even if it’s not as well-made as it should be, I think it deserves a chance, just for old times’ sake.

Hong Kong
:Hong Kong: View from Victoria Peak on a less cloudy day. Causeway Bay – where all the youngsters chill. We also have a place called Times Square. It’s just a shopping mall, but people do countdown outside. Beer Fest also just took place a few weeks ago at Lan Kwai Fong, the clubbing and drinking district. Look like Candies and cupcakes? They’re all stick-ons decorations for cell phones!
